 Rowing Classes at Lake Washington Rowing Club (Photo Credit: (c) Dennis WilliamsRowing is a rewarding sport with a unique balance of technique, fitness and character.  Classes at LWRC are for the complete beginner to learn the basics to enjoy a new sport on the waterways in and around Lake Union.  Learn-To-Row coaches are hand-selected from rowers within the LWRC membership who have shown expertise in both the knowledge of the rowing stroke and the ability to teach it.  We take pride in teaching participants to be well rounded with knowledge in both sculling and sweep rowing.

Learn to Row 1 is a prerequisite for Learn to Row 2 and Team Rowing.

Steps to Register:

1. Print out and complete the  Class Registration Form, return  with payment to LWRC at 910 N. Northlake Way, Seattle, WA 98103.  Forms must be recieved and verified before first day of class.

2. See FAQ’s for general information about your first class.

Class Rules:

Participants must be at least 18 years of age.  Payment must be recieved before the first class.  A 50% cancellation fee will apply for all cancellations before the first class of a session. No refunds will be given after the first class of a session starts.  No make-up classes.

 

Experience Rowing Class

Get a crash course in rowing. You and your friends will go from theory to water in just 3 hours. This class is designed to give you a feel for rowing in team boats on Lake Union.  Participants will learn in the classroom, on the rowing machines (ergometers) and spend an hour rowing on Lake Union in an 8. Open to ages 18 and up.   Class size is usually between 10-18 people and begins in the Board room of the Fremont Boathouse.  The float test is NOT required. Your class fee can be applied to a discount for our Learn to Row 1 class if you want to come back for more!

Cost: $35 (tax included)

2012 Schedule:

Sundays, 9AM-12 Noon:  April 22nd, May 20th, July 22nd, August 19th, September 16th

 

Learn To Row Level 1

Learn To Row 1 is the first class for all new rowers at LWRC.  The class runs for 4 weeks and meets twice a week for 2 hours each class. The class will introduce the correct form and technique for sculling. In sculling each rower has two oars which allows individuals to row in single boats called wherries, providing more flexibility and independence for each class.  A minimum of three students is needed to run class and we keep class sizes capped at 8 students.

Cost: $130 (tax included)

Tuesday and Thursday, 7-9am:  March 6th-29th, April 3rd-26th, May 1st-24th, June 5th-28th, July 10th-August 2nd, August 7th-30th, September 4th-27th, October 2nd-25th

Tuesday and Thursday, 6-8pm:  March 6th-29th, May 1st-24th, July 10th-August 2nd, September 4th-27th

Monday and Wednesday, 6-8pm: April 2nd-25th, June 4th-27th, August 6th-29th, October 1st-24th

Saturday and Sunday, 8:30am-10:30am:  March 3rd-25th, March 31st- April 22nd, April 28th-May 20th, June 2nd-24th, July 7th-29th, August 4th-26th, September 8th-October 7th, October 6th-38th 

 

Learn to Row Level 2

This program will continue to build on sculling fundamentals and technique from LTR 1, concentrating on balance, the addition of power to the stroke and safety. This class focuses on giving participants more time on the water with longer distance rows and increased effiency on the dock.  Three students are needed to run a class and we will cap class size at 8 students.

Cost: $99 (tax included)

Prerequisite: LTR 1

2012 Schedule:

Monday and Wednesdays, 6pm-8pm:  March 5th-28th, April 30th-May 23rd, July 9th-August 1st, September 5th-October 1st

Tuesday and Thursdays, 6pm-8pm: April 3rd-26th, June 5th-28th, August 7th-30th, October 2nd-25th

Team Rowing (Sweep Rowing)

In team rowing participants row the sweep stroke where each rower holds one oar and rows in teams of 4 or 8; this demands great concentration and teamwork to achieve the timing, synchronization and grace that characterizes this sport. LTR 1 is recommended but not required for this class.

Cost: $99.

2012 Schedule:

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6pm-8pm:  March 6th-29th, April 3rd-26th, May 1st-24th, June 5th-28th, July 10th-August 2nd, August 7th-30th, September 4th-27th, October 2nd-25th

Classes will run based on demand.  If a class does not fill, students who have registered will automatically roll forward to the next class session.  LTR1 is highly recommended before enrolling in Team (Sweep) Rowing but it is not a requirement.  Call the office at (206) 547-1583 if you are interested in Team Rowing.
