Novice to Competitive Sculling: All Levels

This class is open for novice to advanced level scullers. The class will be split between two coaches with a more novice class and an intermediate/advanced class. The novice group is open for grads of the Learn to Row programs and anyone who has been away from rowing and needs a refresher. Individuals in this group will have an easy time transitioning into the intermediate/advanced group. The intermediate/advanced group will focus on improving technique and stamina for better rowing and racing. Overall instruction is tailored to individual goals and combines drills and philosophy drawn from Frank Cunningham’s “Sculler At Ease,” among other sources. Designed for improving technique, and building stamina the drills are combined with intervals and distance rowing. This is a group for those interested in developing better rowing technique for competition or personal rowing enjoyment.
Pre-requisite: Learn to Row Express or Sculling, or previous sculling experience

Coaches: Theresa Batty, Amy Hildebrandt, & Meghan Ricci                Class Times: Tue. & Thu. 5:30-7:00 am

Sculler at Ease

A six-week session studying what makes good rowing, particularly for enjoying recreational sculling. The class will focus on the “feel” that Frank Cunningham so often mentioned, of the hands, the boat’s movement, and of the blade action. Lots of drills, plenty of exercise, videos and reading. We won’t do any race training, but everything you learn will make you faster. Open to experienced intermediate and advanced scullers who are confident rowing a racing single without an accompanying launch. Be curious, willing to experiment, and tolerant of an unusual approach to our sport.

Coach: Hugh Lade                Class Times: July 12- August 16: Thu. 6:30-8:30 am; Sun. 7:30-9:30 am
Registration Closed

Saturday Sculling: Intermediate to Competitive

The program is a training group for intermediate to advanced-level rowers who wish to improve their boat speed through technique with the support of conditioning. It will emphasize sculling, small-boat handling and race preparation. Bill Tytus, owner of Pocock Racing Shells and accomplished sculler in the 1960’s, along with John Robinson, coach by keen observation and quiet instruction. This is old school coaching at its best!

Coaches: Bill Tytus and John Robinson                Class Times: Saturdays 6:30-8:00a

Mixed Masters: All Levels

This program is designed for individuals who have completed one of LWRC’s Learn to Row programs, are getting back into rowing after a hiatus, and/or wanting to race with a group of like-minded individuals. Emphasis will be on skill development, technique, teamwork, and endurance. Practices will consist of drills and workouts derived from the drills. In general, the program will have a more Novice/Intermediate group and an Intermediate/Competitive group but will still be seen as one team. Multiple racing opportunities this Spring!
Pre-requisite: Any LTR class, or recommendation from LTR coach. Individuals must be willing to sweep and scull.

Coaches: Amy Hildebrandt & Brooke McCulloch          Class Times: Mon. & Wed. 6:00-8:00p; Sat. 8:30-10:30a

Evening League: Intermediate to Advanced

This training program is for intermediate and advanced rowers. It is an inclusive group of varied levels committed to supporting each person to become a better rower. This group spends equal time between sculling and sweep to develop skills for more racing opportunities. Emphasis is on technique and developing stamina for racing. Enjoying the process of working together is highly valued in this group.

Coach: Theresa Batty                    Class Times: Tue. & Thu. 6:30-8:15p
