Class Details

All of our learn to row classes are open to people with little or no rowing experience. Our small class sizes allow the coaches to focus on the needs of each individual rower and help them learn at their own pace.

Physical Requirement: Participants should be able to perform a low squat, and shift from a kneeling and sitting position to a standing position without assistance. LTR Sweep participants should also be able to lift 25 pounds overhead.

Before your first class, please complete the LWRC Waiver, USRowing Waiver, and LWRC Float test. You can either e-mail your completed forms to the Office or give them to your coach on your first day. In lieu of a float test, if you are a CURRENT Lifeguard or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or you have a SCUBA Certification Card, you may submit a copy of the appropriate certification to LWRC.

If you have any questions about the LTR programs, please e-mail: learntorow@lakewashingtonrowing.com

Learn to Row Sculling

Coach: Meghan Ricci | All sessions Monday & Wednesday 6:45- 8:15 am | $220

Our new Learn to Row Sculling class is an 8-week long class allowing participants to experience rowing in a variety of different size boats. Participants will begin learning the basics in individuals boats and progress into 2-, 3-, and even 4-person boats. The longer class will help build skills and confidence. You will also feel a sense of camaraderie with your fellow classmates, which will help find other individuals to row with in the future. If you’ve always wanted to try rowing, build new skills, and meet new people, experience our LTR Sculling class!

Program is limited to 8 people. Students are encouraged to attend all classes. Missing a class or two is understandable, just let the coach know beforehand.

Learn to Row Express

Coaches: Ron Lorentsen, Teri Randall, and Amy Hildebrant | Morning and evening classes available | $220

This program is for those that have always wanted to try rowing and experience what the sport has to offer in a jam-packed month. The program runs 4 weeks long and meets 3 times a week. Participants will learn the basics of the rowing stroke, starting in stable one-person boats, and have the chance to row in 2-,3-, or 4- person boats as the weeks progress. Each class will build on skills from the previous classes and give the participants a chance to also gain confidence to continue on in one of the LWRC’s Masters programs.

Each session is limited to 6 students. It is important to attend all of the classes to progress with your fellow rowers. If you must miss a class, please let your coach know beforehand. We are only offering two evening sessions in May and June and one morning session in August.

Learn to Row Race Camp

Coach: Teddi McGuire | Monday & Wednesday 6:30- 8:15 pm, Saturday 8:30- 10:30 | $270

LWRC is excited to bring back a race camp for new rowers. This program is an 8-week training regimen with an opportunity to race at the Green Lake Regatta on August 3rd. Program is open to those who have never rowed before, interested in learning to sweep row, and race in 8-person boats. First couple of weeks will cover the basics of rowing and boat handling. Next few weeks will pick up the pace and get the team ready to race!

Program is 3 times a week and is limited to 18 participants. This will be a faster paced class and attendance is a must. This is a great chance for those that have previously taken a LTR Sweep, Sculling, or Express class and have always wanted to have the chance to race in sweep boats. Grab a group of friends and race at a local regatta!
